How to upload a video to YouTube

  1. Confirm the video is ready to publish. (All edits should be made before uploading the video to YouTube. YouTube accepts the following formats: .MP4, .M4V, .MOV, .WMV, .AVI, .3GPP, .MPEG, .MPG, .FLV and .WEBM)
  2. Log in to your YouTube account or create a YouTube account.
  3. Click on ‘Video Manager’ in the menu bar above the channel cover image. You may have to hit the blue “Customize Channel” button first to get to this view.
  4. Click on ‘Upload’ in the upper right corner, then ‘Select Files To Upload’ (up arrow)
  5. Once you select a video, YouTube will begin to upload.
  6. While video is loading, add settings for each menu option
  7. Basic Information: Video Title, Description, Tags (keywords)
  8. Use Translations should client content be in a different language
  9. Advanced Settings:
    • Default for Comments (boxes are typically checked)
    • Default for License and Rights Ownership (standard YouTube license)
    • Syndication (most likely greyed out)
    • Default for Caption Certification (select one)
    • Default for Distribution Options (boxes are typically checked)
    • Default for Age Restrictions (box is typically unchecked)
    • Category ‘Education’ (There is no health, medical, or wellness category)
    • Video Language – select English (or other language if appropriate)
    • Default for Community Contributions (box is typically unchecked)
    • Default for Recording Date (leave blank)
    • Video Statistics – personal choice whether to show number of views.
    • Default for 3D Video (box is typically unchecked)
    • Default for Content Declaration (box is typically unchecked) – UNLESS client is getting a paid for promotion.

  10. Once the video is uploaded, select a Thumbnail (under the Basic Information options), then click ‘Publish’
  11. Once the video is published, you have the option to ‘return to editing’, ‘add more videos’, go to the ‘video manager’, or click the 3 lines in the upper left corner and select ‘My Channel’ to view the video on the channel.
